Docility to the Voice of Our Adorable Jesus

Mass Reading Reflection – Divine Appeal 191

Tuesday , Fifth week in Ordinary Time, Year I

First Reading – Genesis 2:4b-9. 15- 17

Responsorial Psalm –Psalm 104:1 -2a.27-28.29bc-30 (R. 1a)

Gospel – Mark 7: 14-23

Genesis 2:4b-9, 15-17 presents the sacred moment of creation: into the dust of the earth, God formed man and breathed into him the breath of life, making him a living soul in His great wisdom. Adam is placed in the Garden of Eden by God and given the high responsibility of tilling and caring for it . Adjacent to that mission, God pronounces the divine command: Do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That command is not just a prohibition but also an invitation to filial obedience-a call for complete trust in the divine wisdom and providence of God.
As our Adorable Jesus reminds us, “I call souls to be docile to My warnings” (Divine Appeal 191), highlighting the life-giving nature of divine obedience.

In Mark 7:14-23, our adorable Jesus shifts the focus from external actions to the interior disposition of the heart. He teaches that nothing from outside defiles a person; rather, it is what comes from within—evil thoughts, pride, envy, and deceit—that corrupt the soul. This echoes the disobedience in Eden, where sin entered not simply through an external act but through the heart’s rebellion against God’s command. Our adorable Jesus appeals to us to guard our hearts, for they are the wellspring of life and the place where true holiness begins.

The connection between these readings reveals the divine appeal for docility. In Eden, Adam was called to trust God’s word, while in the Gospel, Jesus calls us to interior conversion. Docility is the humble openness to God’s truth, recognizing that His commands are expressions of His infinite love and wisdom. Without this docility, hearts become hardened, blind to the dangers of sin, and deaf to the gentle voice of grace. Our Adorable Jesus warns us that “time is coming when souls will want and long to hear My words but they will not” (Divine Appeal 191), urging us to respond now, while His voice is near.

Therefore, let us cultivate hearts that are docile to the voice of our Adorable Jesus. May we embrace His teachings, not as burdens, but as pathways to freedom and life. By trusting in His divine wisdom, guarding our hearts from sin, and remaining attentive to His loving warnings, we will find the joy and peace that come from living in union with Him.

Prayer

Oh Adorable Jesus, grant us docile hearts to heed Your loving warnings. Help us trust in Your divine wisdom and embrace Your commands with humility and love. Purify our hearts from all that defiles, and keep us close to You, now and always, longing to hear Your holy words. Amen
