Divine Appeal 279: “I give many signs. My heart is overflowing. The chalice is filled! Mankind only sees pleasure and evil ways. Good people are scarce and they do not pray sincerely and fast.”

Our Adorable Jesus watches the world chase after comfort, pleasure, and self-indulgence, yet His Heart overflows—not with anger, but with sorrow. In Divine Appeal, He pleads with us: He gives many signs, but few notice. The chalice is filled, yet mankind refuses to repent. This reflects the message of Isaiah 58:1-9a, where God makes it clear that fasting without inner transformation is empty. He does not seek observance for its own sake but a heart that beats with compassion—a life poured out in love, lifting the weary, breaking chains of injustice, and becoming an offering of mercy.. Our Adorable Jesus sees through our empty sacrifices. He desires not just prayers from our lips but conversion in our hearts.

In Matthew 9:14–15, Jesus speaks of fasting not as a mere tradition but as a response to love and longing. While He was physically present, His disciples had no need to fast, for their hearts were full. But once He was taken from them, their deep yearning for Him would lead them to prayer and sacrifice. And yet, in our time, as Divine Appeal warns, how many of us truly long for Him? Fasting is more than skipping meals; it is silencing distractions, surrendering our will, and making room for Him. The saints understood this well—Saint Clare fasted not to suffer, but to make more space for God. Saint John Vianney sacrificed daily, not to prove his holiness, but to save souls. Authentic fasting and penance spring from a heart that longs for Jesus—a heart so consumed by love that it cannot stand to see Him forgotten, wounded by indifference, or cast aside.

And so, what will we choose? The world is full of noise, of self-indulgence, of people too busy to notice the signs He is giving. But we are called to be different. If we fast, let it be out of love. If we pray, let it be with sincerity. If we sacrifice, let it be to console our Adorable Jesus. He is watching, waiting, calling. Will we be among the few who answer?

Prayer:

Our Adorable Jesus, You see a world that turns away, yet You never stop calling. Help us to fast, not out of duty, but out of love. Let our prayers be real, our sacrifices sincere. May our hearts ache for You as Yours aches for us. We are Yours. Amen.
