Novena to Mary, Mother of God

Start Date: December, 23
End Date: December, 31
Feast Day: January, 1

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer (to be said each day):

O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, at the dawn of this day of prayer we place ourselves beneath your gentle gaze. You who welcomed Our Adorable Jesus with a heart wholly surrendered, prepare our souls to receive Him anew. Quiet within us every fear, resistance, and distraction that keeps us from God’s will. Teach us your holy availability, your listening silence, your courageous trust when the path is hidden.

Mother most pure, lead us into the interior life where Jesus speaks softly yet transforms everything. Obtain for us the grace to pray not only with words, but with the offering of our lives. Unite our intentions, sufferings, joys, and hopes to the Heart of your Son, that they may become pleasing to the Father.

O Mary, Mother of God, walk with us today. Let every step, thought, and desire be guided by you, until we rest in Jesus, your Adorable Son. Amen.

DAY ONE: MARY, CHOSEN BEFORE ALL AGES

Scripture Reading
“Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” (Lk 1:45)
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him in love.” (Eph 1:4)

Reflection
Before time unfolded, the Father prepared Mary as the dwelling place of His Son. Our Adorable Jesus reveals through her that grace always precedes human effort. Mary did not claim her vocation; she received it in humility and faith. Her hidden election teaches us that God’s greatest works often begin in silence, unnoticed by the world. In Mary, we learn that holiness is not self-construction but surrender. Jesus delights in souls who allow themselves to be chosen, formed, and led by God rather than shaped by ambition. Through Mary, He invites us to trust divine plans unfolding beyond our understanding.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we come before you at the beginning of this novena, acknowledging that our lives rest in God’s loving design. You were chosen before all ages to bear Our Adorable Jesus; teach us to trust that our lives, too, are held within the Father’s providence. Quiet our restless hearts and free us from the need to control outcomes. Form in us a humble readiness to receive whatever God wills, whether in joy or trial. Unite our hearts to the Heart of your Son, that His grace may shape our thoughts, words, and actions. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), confident that you present it perfectly to Jesus. Lead us into deeper faith, faithful obedience, and peaceful surrender, until God’s plan is fulfilled in us. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY TWO: MARY’S FIAT — THE YES THAT OPENED HEAVEN

Scripture Reading
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk 1:38)

Reflection
The salvation of the world entered history through Mary’s humble “yes.” Our Adorable Jesus reveals that God never forces His grace; He waits for the free consent of the heart. Mary’s fiat was not spoken from full understanding, but from complete trust. In her obedience, fear gave way to faith, and the impossible became flesh. Her yes teaches us that holiness is found not in certainty but in surrender. Jesus still seeks hearts willing to cooperate with His will, even when the path is unclear. Through Mary, He invites us to let grace interrupt our plans and reshape our lives.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God, we stand before you desiring to learn the language of your “yes.” You entrusted your entire future to God’s word; teach us to surrender our fears, our calculations, and our resistance. When God’s will unsettles us, strengthen our faith. When obedience seems costly, remind us that grace always sustains what it asks. Form within us a heart that listens before it speaks and trusts before it understands. Unite our will to the will of Our Adorable Jesus, who became obedient unto death for love of us. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), asking that it be purified and ordered according to God’s design. Help us to say “yes” daily, faithfully, and with love, until our lives become a living fiat to God. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY THREE: MARY, MOTHER OF THE LIVING WORD

Scripture Reading
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.” (Jn 1:14)
“And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Lk 1:43)

Reflection
In Mary, the Eternal Word chose a human dwelling. Our Adorable Jesus reveals that He did not enter the world through power or spectacle, but through a mother’s faith and flesh. Mary carried Him not only in her womb, but in her heart, allowing God’s Word to shape her entire being. Through her, we learn that Christ desires to live within us through grace, transforming ordinary life into sacred space. Jesus still seeks souls who will bear Him quietly into the world, making Him present through love, fidelity, and hidden holiness.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Living Word, we adore the mystery entrusted to you. You welcomed Our Adorable Jesus into your very being; teach us to receive Him with reverence and purity of heart. Prepare our souls to become living tabernacles where Christ may dwell and act freely. Guard us from indifference toward His presence within us and around us. Unite our lives to the mystery of the Incarnation, that our words and actions may reflect Jesus living in us. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), asking that it be touched by the grace flowing from your Son. Lead us to cherish Christ within us and to carry Him faithfully into the world. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY FOUR: MARY, WOMAN OF SILENCE AND LISTENING

Scripture Reading
“But Mary treasured all these words, pondering them in her heart.” (Lk 2:19)

Reflection
Mary teaches us that God’s deepest works unfold in silence. Our Adorable Jesus reveals that He speaks most clearly to hearts that listen rather than rush to act or explain. Mary did not demand immediate understanding; she pondered, waited, and trusted. In her quiet fidelity, the mysteries of God matured within her soul. Her silence was not emptiness, but fullness—space made for grace. Jesus invites us, through Mary, to rediscover interior stillness in a noisy world, allowing God’s word to descend from the mind into the heart and shape our lives gently but powerfully.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God, we come to you longing for the silence that hears God. Teach us to quiet our restless thoughts, our anxious words, and our constant need to explain ourselves. Lead us into the interior space where Our Adorable Jesus speaks with tenderness and truth. Help us to ponder God’s actions in our lives without impatience or complaint. Obtain for us the grace to wait faithfully when answers are delayed and light seems hidden. Unite our hearts to yours, that we may learn to listen before speaking and to trust before understanding. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), entrusting it to your silent intercession. Form us in recollection and peace, until our lives echo the Word we receive in prayer. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY FIVE: MARY, MOTHER OF COMPASSION AND SORROW

Scripture Reading
“And a sword will pierce your own soul also, so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” (Lk 2:35)

Reflection
Mary’s compassion reached its fullness at the foot of the Cross. Our Adorable Jesus reveals that His Mother did not flee from suffering but remained, united to His sacrifice in love. Her sorrow was not despair but participation—offering her pain for the redemption of souls. Through Mary, we learn that suffering, when accepted in faith, becomes fruitful. She teaches us to stand firm when love is costly and to remain faithful when God’s ways pass through the Cross. Jesus invites us, with Mary, to transform sorrow into intercession and pain into an offering of love.

Prayer
O Sorrowful Mary, Mother of God, we stand with you beneath the Cross of Our Adorable Jesus. You shared in His suffering with unwavering love; teach us to unite our trials to His sacrifice. When sorrow visits our lives, keep us from bitterness and despair. Help us to believe that no pain offered with love is wasted. Obtain for us the grace to carry our crosses with patience, trusting in the Father’s redemptive plan. Unite our sufferings, losses, and hidden tears to the Heart of your Son for the salvation of souls. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), asking that it be embraced by your compassionate intercession. Strengthen us to remain faithful in suffering, until sorrow gives way to resurrection hope. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY SIX: MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH

Scripture Reading
“All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.” (Acts 1:14)

Reflection
From the Cross, Our Adorable Jesus gave Mary to the Church as a living gift. She is not outside the Church but at its heart, forming Christ within believers through prayer and fidelity. In the Upper Room, Mary teaches the Church how to wait for the Holy Spirit—united, persevering, and humble. Her presence preserves faith when fear arises and gathers scattered hearts into communion. Through Mary, Jesus continues to nurture His Church, especially in times of trial, calling it back to prayer, unity, and trust in God’s promises rather than human strength.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church, we receive you with gratitude as the gift of Our Adorable Jesus. Gather us into unity when division weakens faith and fear disturbs peace. Teach us to persevere in prayer as you did with the apostles, trusting in the action of the Holy Spirit. Obtain for the Church purity of doctrine, humility of heart, and courage in witness. Protect all pastors, consecrated souls, and the faithful from discouragement and compromise. Unite our lives to the mission of your Son, that we may serve Him faithfully in the world. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), asking that it be held within the prayer of the Church. Lead us always to deeper communion with Christ. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY SEVEN: MARY, REFUGE OF SINNERS

Scripture Reading
“His mercy is from age to age toward those who fear him.” (Lk 1:50)

Reflection
Mary, Refuge of Sinners, reveals the tender mercy of Our Adorable Jesus. She does not shield sin, but leads the repentant to reconciliation and grace. Her maternal heart receives the contrite, comforts the weak, and intercedes for those burdened by guilt. Jesus shows that through Mary, mercy flows more readily into souls willing to return. She teaches us that no fault is beyond God’s forgiveness when accompanied by humility and repentance. Following her example, we learn to entrust our sins to God confidently, knowing that He delights in mercy and desires our restoration to life and love.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and Refuge of Sinners, we come before you with contrite hearts, acknowledging our weakness and failures. You who intercede for the lost and weary, guide us to repentance and reconciliation with Our Adorable Jesus. Teach us to trust in His infinite mercy and to embrace conversion with courage. Obtain for us the grace to surrender our sins, our doubts, and our regrets into the loving Heart of your Son. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), confident in your maternal protection and intercession. Help us to walk faithfully in God’s ways, ever relying on the mercy that flows through you. Lead us from fear of punishment to love of holiness, until we rejoice in Christ’s forgiveness. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY EIGHT: MARY, MODEL OF HOPE

Scripture Reading
“Blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled.” (Lk 1:45)

Reflection
Mary teaches us that hope flourishes in trust, even when fulfillment seems distant. Our Adorable Jesus shows that her unwavering belief in God’s promises carried her through uncertainty, trials, and suffering. She invites us to persevere in hope, not by relying on circumstances, but on God’s faithfulness. Through Mary, we learn that true hope anchors the soul in divine love, strengthens patience, and sustains the faithful in darkness. Jesus desires that our hope mirrors hers—active, confident, and steadfast—so that we can endure, witness, and participate in the fulfillment of God’s plan.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and Model of Hope, we turn to you as the star that guides us through the storms of life. Teach us to trust in the promises of Our Adorable Jesus, even when the way seems uncertain. Help us to hold fast to hope in prayer, in obedience, and in fidelity, so that we may persevere without discouragement. Strengthen our hearts against despair and impatience. Unite our desires and intentions to the plans of God, that we may await His grace with confidence. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), asking that it be nurtured by your hope-filled intercession. Lead us always to rely on God’s faithfulness, so that our lives may radiate the hope we receive from Christ through you. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

DAY NINE: MARY, MOTHER WHO LEADS US TO JESUS

Scripture Reading
“His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’” (Jn 2:5)

Reflection
Mary’s mission is to bring every soul to Jesus. Our Adorable Jesus shows that true Marian devotion is not an end in itself but a pathway to Him. At Cana and at Calvary, she points others to Christ, guiding hearts to obedience, love, and trust. She teaches us that the deepest devotion is active—manifested in leading others and ourselves closer to God. Through Mary, we learn that the fullness of Christian life is union with Jesus, and that every grace received through her intercession is meant to draw us nearer to His Heart.

Prayer
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and Mother of all who seek Jesus, we entrust ourselves entirely to you. You who always lead souls to Our Adorable Jesus, form us to follow His will faithfully. Remove from our hearts whatever hinders us from responding to His call. Teach us to say “yes” daily, to offer our lives in obedience, and to bring others gently to the love of your Son. Unite our intentions, actions, and desires to Christ, so that all we do may glorify Him. We place before you our intention (mention your intention here), confident that you present it perfectly to Jesus. Lead us to live as He desires, until we rest fully in His Heart, now and forever. Amen.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

Closing Prayer (to be said each day):

O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God and our tender Mother, we thank you for guiding us closer to your Son, Our Adorable Jesus, during this day of prayer. As you led Him into the world, lead us into His Eucharistic presence, where He gives Himself entirely out of love for us. May the Bread of Life strengthen our hearts, purify our minds, and unite our lives with His Sacrifice. Teach us to adore Him truly, receive Him worthily, and carry His love into every moment of our daily lives. Mother most loving, form in us the humility, faith, and obedience that you so perfectly exemplified, so that every thought, word, and action may glorify Christ within us. Lead us ever deeper into the mystery of the Eucharist, so that our hearts may rest fully in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Amen.
