Novena to the Immaculate Conception

Start Date: November, 29
End Date: December, 7
Feast Day: December, 8

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer (to be said each day):

O God, who through the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary prepared a worthy dwelling for your Son, we humbly ask that, just as by the foreseen death of your Son you preserved her from every stain of sin, so may we, purified through her intercession, be brought safely into your presence. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Day One – 29th November
Theme: Mary, the Dawn of Salvation

Short Scripture Reading:
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head.”Genesis 3:15

Reflection:
Today we contemplate Mary as the first light of God’s saving plan—the dawn that announces the coming of Christ, the true Sun of Justice. In her Immaculate Conception, God begins the great reversal of humanity’s fall, granting her a heart entirely free for Him. Mary’s purity is not distant perfection but a profound sign of God’s desire to restore us, healing the wounds that sin has carved into our lives and our world. She is the Woman whose humble “yes” opens the door for the Redeemer, and even now she stands beside us in our daily struggles, crushing the subtle works of the enemy through her intercession. As we begin this novena, we place before her the parts of our lives that seek renewal—our fears, hopes, and hidden burdens—trusting that the Mother who bore the Light of the World will guide us gently into His grace.

Prayer:
O most Holy Virgin, who was pleasing to the Lord and became His mother, immaculate in body and spirit, in faith and in love, look kindly on me as I implore your powerful intercession. O most Holy Mother, who by your blessed Immaculate Conception, from the first moment of your conception did crush the head of the enemy, receive our prayers as we implore you to present at the throne of God the favour we now request.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Two – 30th November
Theme: Mary, Mother of Mercy

Short Scripture Reading:
“His mercy is from generation to generation upon those who fear Him.”Luke 1:50

Reflection (150 words):
Today we contemplate Mary as the Mother of Mercy, the gentle Mother who reveals the tenderness of God. In her Immaculate Conception, she becomes the first to receive the full outpouring of divine mercy—a living sign that God’s love is stronger than sin and that His compassion reaches into the very roots of human frailty. Although she is without stain, Mary does not remain distant from our struggles; instead, she draws near with a mother’s attentive care. She knows our weaknesses and carries our petitions with confidence to her Divine Son. Her mercy is not mere sentiment but an active protection—guiding, strengthening, and consoling her children. Today, as we bring our intentions to her, we entrust our anxieties, wounds, and hopes to her maternal heart. Through her intercession, may we experience the healing embrace of Christ, who delights to pour His mercy upon all who seek Him with trust.

Prayer:
O Mary, ever blessed Virgin, Mother of God, Queen of angels and of saints, we salute you with the most profound veneration and filial devotion as we contemplate your holy Immaculate Conception. We thank you for your maternal protection and for the many blessings that we have received through your wondrous mercy and most powerful intercession. In all our necessities we have recourse to you with unbounded confidence. O Mother of Mercy, we beseech you now to hear our prayer and to obtain for us of your Divine Son the favour that we so earnestly request in this novena.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Three – 1st December
Theme: Mary, Joy of the Church

Short Scripture Reading:
“Rejoice, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”Luke 1:28

Reflection:
On this third day, we look to Mary as the joy of the Church, for in her Immaculate Conception the dawn of redemption breaks upon the world. She is the first to receive the fullness of grace that Christ would later win for all humanity, and in her the Church discovers her own deepest identity—beloved, redeemed, and created for holiness. Mary’s joy is not shallow or fleeting; it springs from her total trust in God and her openness to His transforming love. She shows us that true joy does not depend on circumstances but on surrender to the divine will. When we turn to her, especially in moments of confusion or weariness, she gently leads us back to Jesus, the source of all lasting peace. Today we ask her to speak to His Heart on our behalf, confident that no request placed in her motherly hands is ever ignored.

Prayer:
O Blessed Virgin Mary, glory of the Christian people, joy of the universal Church and Mother of Our Lord, speak for us to the Heart of Jesus, who is your Son and our brother. O Mary, who by your holy Immaculate Conception did enter the world free from stain, in your mercy obtain for us from Jesus the special favour which we now so earnestly seek.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Four – 2nd December
Theme: Mary, Full of Grace

Short Scripture Reading:
“The angel said to her, ‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.’”Luke 1:28

Reflection:
Today we honor Mary as the one who received the fullness of grace from the first moment of her existence. Her Immaculate Conception is God’s masterpiece—His declaration that the Redeemer will enter the world through a heart completely open to His love. Mary stands before us as both Mother and Virgin, wholly given to God yet wholly given to us. Her purity does not distance her from our struggles; instead, it allows her to see us clearly and to love us with a tenderness shaped by divine grace. As we gaze upon her today, seated in glory yet attentive to the cries of her children, we are reminded that she brings our petitions to Christ with a mother’s insistence and a saint’s confidence. Whatever grace we seek, she desires only that we draw nearer to her Son. Let us trust her intercession and surrender our intentions into her immaculate hands.

Prayer:
O Mary, Mother of God, endowed in your glorious Immaculate Conception with the fullness of grace; unique among women in that you are both Mother and Virgin, Mother of Christ and Virgin of Christ, we ask you to look down with a tender heart from your throne and listen to our prayers as we earnestly ask that you obtain for us the favour for which we now plead.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Five – 3rd December
Theme: Mary, Chosen Dwelling of God

Short Scripture Reading:
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”John 1:14

Reflection:
Today we contemplate Mary as the divinely prepared dwelling place of the Eternal Word. Her Immaculate Conception was not merely a privilege but a purposeful act of God, shaping her heart to be a sanctuary of purity, humility, and unwavering faith. In her, heaven and earth meet; in her, God finds the home where His Son will take flesh for the salvation of the world. Mary’s preservation from sin teaches us that God’s grace always goes before us, preparing the way even before we recognize it. She stands as a reminder that holiness is not self-made but received, nurtured through openness to God’s transforming love. As we present our intentions today, we entrust them to her immaculate heart, confident that she intercedes with maternal zeal. May she help us become living dwelling places for Christ, allowing His presence to reshape our thoughts, desires, and daily choices.

Prayer:
O Lord, who, by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, did prepare a fitting dwelling for your Son, we beseech you that, as by the foreseen death of your Son you did preserve her from all stain of sin, grant that through her intercession we may be favoured with the granting of the grace that we seek for at this time.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Six – 4th December
Theme: Mary, Preordained in Christ

Short Scripture Reading:
“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before Him in love.”Ephesians 1:4

Reflection:
On this sixth day, we contemplate the mystery of Mary’s Immaculate Conception as part of God’s eternal plan—preordained through the merits of Christ, the Word made Flesh. Before time began, the Father willed that His Son would enter the world through a Woman preserved from sin, a Mother whose heart would perfectly reflect His own. Mary’s privilege is inseparable from Christ’s redeeming love; she is the first and most radiant fruit of His victory over sin. As Queen of Heaven, she does not keep this grace for herself but longs to lead her children into the holiness for which they, too, were created. Today we rejoice with her, recognizing in her Immaculate Conception the promise of what God desires to accomplish in every soul. With confidence we entrust our needs to her, knowing she intercedes with the tenderness of a Mother and the authority of a Queen.

Prayer:
Glorious and immortal Queen of Heaven, we profess our firm belief in your Immaculate Conception, preordained for you in the merits of your Divine Son. We rejoice with you in your Immaculate Conception. To the one ever-reigning God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three in Person, one in nature, we offer thanks for your blessed Immaculate Conception. O Mother of the Word made Flesh, listen to our petition as we ask this special grace during this novena.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Seven – 5th December
Theme: Mary, Our Tender and Powerful Mother

Short Scripture Reading:
“Behold, your mother.”John 19:27

Reflection:
Today we turn to Mary as both the Immaculate Mother of God and our own loving Mother. From the heights of the dignity given to her by the Most High, she gazes upon her children not with distance but with profound tenderness. Her Immaculate Conception reveals a heart entirely free for God, entirely open to His love—a heart that now beats with maternal concern for each of us. Because she is full of grace, her intercession carries great power; because she is our Mother, she uses that power only for our good. As we present our petitions today, we do so with confidence, trusting that she desires nothing more than to lead us and those for whom we pray to eternal life. Yet, with humility, we also surrender to God’s will, knowing that Mary asks not only for what we desire, but for what will most benefit our immortal souls.

Prayer:
O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God and my mother, from the sublime heights of your dignity turn your merciful eyes upon me. Full of confidence in your bounty and mindful of your Immaculate Conception, and fully conscious of your power, I beg you to come to our aid and ask your Divine Son to grant the favour we earnestly seek in this novena, if it be beneficial for our immortal souls and the souls for whom we pray.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Eight – 6th December
Theme: Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate

Short Scripture Reading:
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”John 1:14

Reflection:
Today we reflect on Mary as the Mother of the Word Incarnate, the One who bore Christ, our Redeemer, into the world. Her Immaculate Conception prepared her to receive Him with a heart entirely free from sin, making her the perfect dwelling for divine love. Because of her intimate union with Jesus, Mary’s intercession is powerful and certain. She brings our petitions directly to the throne of God, not for her own glory, but out of love for us and for the salvation of all. As we meditate on her joyous Immaculate Conception, we recognize that her life is a model of total surrender and trust in God. Today, we unite our intentions with hers, confident that she pleads for us with maternal compassion. By following her example of openness to God’s will, we draw nearer to the grace and blessings of her Son.

Prayer:
O Most gracious Virgin Mary, beloved Mother of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, intercede with Him for us that we may be granted the favour which we petition so earnestly in this novena. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, we feel confident that your prayers on our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. O Glorious Mother of God, in memory of your joyous Immaculate Conception, hear our prayers and obtain for us our petitions.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Day Nine – 7th December
Theme: Mary, Mother and Advocate of All

Short Scripture Reading:
“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.’”Luke 1:46-47

Reflection :
On this final day of the novena, we honor Mary as the Mother of the King of the Universe and the most perfect member of the human race, our “tainted nature’s solitary boast.” Her Immaculate Conception sets her apart as the sinless advocate whose maternal heart pleads for us before her Son. In her life, we see the fullness of God’s grace working in perfect harmony with human freedom. She is the bridge between heaven and earth, guiding us with her intercession and maternal love. As we bring our petitions to her today, we are reminded that Mary does not simply watch from afar; she stands with us in our struggles, lifting our intentions to Jesus with steadfast faith. May this final day deepen our trust in her guidance, and may her prayers obtain for us the graces we most need.

Prayer:
O Mother of the King of the Universe, most perfect member of the human race, “our tainted nature’s solitary boast,” we turn to you as mother, advocate, and mediatrix. O Holy Mary, assist us in our present necessity. By your Immaculate Conception, O Mary conceived without sin, we humbly beseech you from the bottom of our hearts to intercede for us with your Divine Son and ask that we be granted the favour for which we now plead.
(Pause for personal intention…)
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, Mother of Our Saviour, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Amen.

Closing Prayer (to be said each day):

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother! to you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer us. Amen.
