Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus

Start Date: October, 19
End Date: October, 27
Feast Day: October, 28

Patronage:

St. Jude Thaddeus, faithful Apostle and friend of Our Lord, is the powerful patron of impossible causes and desperate situations. Once forgotten, he now shines as a messenger of hope for those who feel lost or abandoned. His intercession reminds us that no trial is beyond God’s mercy and no prayer unheard. Through St. Jude, countless souls have found light in darkness, strength in suffering, and trust in the loving providence of Jesus Christ.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer (to be said each day):

Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases and things despaired of.

Pray for us, we implore you, who are so helpless and in need. Make use, we beg you, of that special privilege granted to you—to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to our aid in this great need, that we may receive the consolations and help of Heaven in all our necessities, trials, and sufferings, particularly (here mention your request), and that we may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity.

We promise you, O blessed St. Jude, to always remember this great favor, to honor you as our special and powerful patron, and to encourage devotion to you always. Amen..

Day One – Trusting in Hope Amid Trials

Scripture Reading:
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus calls us to hope not as an escape from suffering, but as a divine participation in His own steadfast love. When storms surround us and every door seems closed, He remains the silent Presence who never leaves our side. Saint Jude, friend of Jesus, reminds us that hope is born in surrender—when we entrust what we cannot control into the hands that were pierced for us. True hope is not a feeling but a grace: it flowers in souls that choose faith over despair, love over resentment, and prayer over complaint. Let us unite our pain with the Cross of our Adorable Jesus, believing that in every darkness, His mercy is still writing resurrection. As Saint Jude teaches us, no situation is hopeless when it is offered to Christ who redeems all things in love.

Prayer:
Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, friend of Jesus, we place ourselves in your care at these difficult times. Help us know that we need not face our troubles alone. Please join us in our need, asking God to send us consolation in our sorrow, courage in our fear, and healing in our suffering. Ask our loving Lord to fill us with the grace to accept whatever may lie ahead for us and our loved ones, and to strengthen our faith in God’s healing powers. Thank you, Saint Jude Thaddeus, for the promise of hope you hold out to all who believe, and inspire us to give this gift of hope to others as it has been given to us.
Saint Jude, Apostle of Hope, pray for us!

Day Two – Persevering Faith in the Midst of Trials

Scripture Reading:
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus invites us to trust beyond what we can see—to believe that grace is at work even when the outcome is hidden. Faith is not merely believing that God can act; it is resting in the certainty that He is acting, even through the delays and denials that test our hearts. Saint Jude, apostle of impossible causes, teaches us that every trial conceals an invitation to deeper union with Christ. When we stand before difficulties that seem insurmountable, we meet the threshold of divine power. It is there—at the limits of human strength—that Jesus reveals Himself as Lord of the impossible. Let us not grow weary in prayer, for every plea uttered in trust draws heaven closer to earth. Through the intercession of Saint Jude, may our perseverance become praise, our waiting become worship, and our struggles be transformed into surrender before our Adorable Jesus.

Prayer:
O Holy Saint Jude, Apostle and Martyr, great in virtue and rich in miracles, near kinsman of Jesus Christ, faithful intercessor for all who invoke you, special patron in times of need, to you we have recourse from the depths of our hearts and humbly beg you, to whom God has given such great power, to come to our assistance. Help us now in our urgent need and grant our earnest petitions. We will never forget the graces and favors you obtain for us, and we will do our utmost to spread devotion to you. Amen.
Saint Jude, Apostle of Hope, pray for us!

Day Three – Hope When All Seems Lost

Scripture Reading:
“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our strength… but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:8–9)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus often allows us to come to the brink of despair—not to destroy us, but to empty us of self-reliance so that His divine power may fill the void. When every human solution fails, divine mercy begins to act. Saint Jude, the helper of the helpless, understood that true hope is born not in comfort but in surrender. The moments when we feel most abandoned are often the moments when Heaven is closest. To cry out to God from the depths is already to be lifted toward Him, for prayer in desolation becomes the purest form of faith. Our Adorable Jesus stands beside us in every impossibility, not as a distant rescuer but as a compassionate Redeemer who transforms despair into deliverance. Through Saint Jude’s intercession, may we learn to see each trial not as the end of hope, but as the threshold where grace begins to rise.

Prayer:
O Saint Jude Thaddeus, relative of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, glorious Apostle and Martyr, beloved of the Most Holy Trinity, rich in virtue and radiant in miracles, faithful helper in difficult situations—we come to you in our distress. From the depths of our hearts, we call upon you to hasten to our aid. You to whom God has given the privilege of assisting those who have almost despaired of all aid—look down upon us with compassion. Come, O holy Apostle, that we may sing God’s praises and proclaim His mercy through your intercession. Amen.
Saint Jude, Help of the Helpless, aid us in our distress!
Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke you!

Day Four – The Consolation of Divine Help

Scripture Reading:
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus draws nearest not to the strong but to the brokenhearted. He finds His dwelling within the cracks of our weakness and the tears we hide. Saint Jude, the Apostle of desperate hope, stands as a mirror of this divine tenderness—reminding us that Heaven bends down most lovingly to those who can no longer stand on their own. In our desolation, God’s mercy does not merely console; it recreates. Grace enters where our control ends, rebuilding trust from ruins and turning lament into praise. To invoke Saint Jude is to enter the mystery of a God who delights in raising what seemed lost, in healing what seemed beyond repair. His intercession teaches us that no situation is truly hopeless, for the pierced Heart of Jesus continues to beat even in our darkest night. Let us, then, surrender our distress into His hands, and await with confidence the dawn of divine consolation.

Prayer:
Glorious Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, we praise God for the graces bestowed upon you, granting you the privilege of bringing hope to those in despair. Intercede for us in our great need (mention intention). Through your merits and prayers, may we receive the consolation of divine help in our necessity, so that we may praise God’s mercy on earth and bless Him eternally with you in Heaven. Ever mindful of your favor, we promise to honor you as our heavenly patron and to encourage devotion to you in every way we can. Therefore, with confidence, we invoke your aid: helper when hope is fading, help us in our distress. Amen.

Day Five – The Compassion of the Sacred Heart

Scripture Reading:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Reflection:
The mercy of our Adorable Jesus flows ceaselessly from His Sacred Heart—a river of tenderness for every soul weighed down by sorrow. Saint Jude Thaddeus, who knew the nearness of this Heart, stands as a witness that divine compassion never abandons the desperate. When life’s burdens seem unbearable, the Sacred Heart whispers stillness into our storms, reminding us that our weakness is not rejection but invitation—to trust, to surrender, to be loved in our littleness. The Apostle of Hope teaches us that no prayer is too poor when offered through the Heart of Jesus. Even in the darkest hour, faith whispered with trembling lips becomes a hymn before Heaven’s throne. In turning toward Christ with humble confidence, our suffering is not wasted; it becomes the fragrance of hope rising to God. Let us therefore lift our hearts through Saint Jude, believing that every act of trust draws us deeper into the unfailing mercy of Jesus.

Prayer:
Glorious Apostle Saint Jude Thaddeus, true relative of Jesus and Mary, we salute you through the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through this Heart, we praise and thank God for all the graces He has bestowed upon you. Humbly prostrate before you, we implore you, through this Heart, to look down upon us with compassion. O despise not our poor prayers; let not our trust be confounded! To you, God has granted the privilege of aiding humanity in the most desperate cases. O come to our aid, that we may praise the mercies of God! All our lives we will be grateful to you and will be your faithful clients until we can thank you in heaven. Amen.

Day Six – The Humility That Moves the Heart of God

Scripture Reading:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus delights in the humble soul—the one who waits not in demand but in trust. Humility opens the door through which divine grace enters, for it is the soul’s silent confession that God alone suffices. Saint Jude Thaddeus, though close to the Lord by kinship and apostleship, lived in the quiet shadow of His glory, seeking nothing for himself but everything for others. His intercession teaches us that humility is not weakness but strength anchored in truth—the truth that God’s power is perfected in our surrender. When we kneel in hidden hope, our small prayers become radiant offerings rising toward the Heart of Jesus. In times when answers seem delayed, humility teaches patience born of love, for God’s silence is often the soft work of mercy preparing something far greater than we imagined. Through Saint Jude’s example, let us learn to pray not to control God’s timing, but to rest within His will, confident that every humble plea reaches the throne of grace.

Prayer:
Most humble Saint Jude, in humility we anxiously await our Redeemer to act on these petitions (mention your intentions). Being close to Him, kindly and constantly present us and our needs to the Lord Jesus, that He may turn His kindly countenance toward us and grant answers to our prayers. Amen.

Day Seven – Confidence in the Power of Intercession

Scripture Reading:
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus listens tenderly to the voice of faith, especially when it rises from hearts united in trust and perseverance. The saints are living witnesses that love never dies—it intercedes eternally before the throne of God. Saint Jude Thaddeus, the Apostle of Hope, reminds us that prayer offered with confidence is not presumption but an act of love that believes in God’s goodness beyond human reasoning. When we invoke him, we do so not as a last resort but as companions in the Communion of Saints, where heaven and earth meet in one pleading voice. To pray through Saint Jude is to believe that God’s mercy is stronger than despair, that divine love still intervenes in the darkest corners of our need. Confidence is faith matured by surrender; it trusts even before seeing. As we continue this novena, let our petitions become acts of adoration—acknowledging that God’s response, whatever form it takes, will always be love in disguise.

Prayer:
Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude, knowing the intentions for which we have embarked on this novena (mention your intentions), we humbly beg that you do not relent in your intercession for us before God. With confidence in your willingness to help, O most amiable friend of Christ, we honour your memory and look forward to sharing testimonies on account of your powerful intercession. Amen.

Day Eight – Perseverance in Hope

Scripture Reading:
“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” (Luke 18:1)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus teaches us that prayer is not a transaction but a relationship—a continuous movement of love between the human heart and the Heart of God. In moments when Heaven seems silent, faith is purified and made steadfast. Saint Jude Thaddeus, Apostle of Hope, stands as a companion in these waiting hours, reminding us that delay is not denial but often divine preparation. To persist in prayer is to allow God to form our hearts according to His will, transforming longing into trust and frustration into surrender. The saints persevered because they knew that every unanswered prayer still drew them closer to the Answer Himself—Christ, our Redeemer. As we call upon Saint Jude today, may we learn from his steadfast faith and courageous endurance. Let us not grow weary in intercession, for in every act of trust, grace ripens unseen. Our trials may test our patience, but they also deepen our love, making our hearts fertile ground for miracles yet to bloom.

Prayer:
Most Holy Apostle, Saint Jude, it is often difficult to persist, especially when the answer seems delayed. Help us intercede that we may never give up but remain faithful in prayer. May God, in His tender mercy, encourage us by granting whatever is necessary for our wellbeing and salvation. Amen.

Day Nine – Surrender to the Divine Will

Scripture Reading:
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36)

Reflection:
Our Adorable Jesus, in His boundless wisdom, calls us not to measure life by abundance but by surrender. The soul that learns to trust the will of God possesses a peace that the world cannot steal. Saint Jude Thaddeus, mirror of divine courage and resignation, reminds us that holiness begins where self-will ends. True freedom is not the absence of trials but the grace to see God’s love shaping us through them. When we accept suffering in union with Christ, even pain becomes prayer, and loss becomes gain. To abandon ourselves to divine providence is to live already in Heaven’s rhythm—a quiet consent to Love’s perfect plan. Let us, then, not chase what fades but hold fast to what endures. Our struggles, borne in faith, become seeds of eternal joy. Through the intercession of Saint Jude, may we live not for our comfort but for God’s glory, and find in His will our only peace.

Prayer:
O holy Saint Jude, Apostle and Martyr, grant that we may so dispose our lives to the will of God. May we not seek temporal goods but that which nourishes our souls. Teach us to see God’s gracious purpose in all our trials and to find peace in surrendering to His will. Amen.

Closing Prayer (to be said each day):

May the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, and loved in all the tabernacles until the end of time. Amen.

May the most Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised and glorified now and forever. Amen
